What an ass to not stay and fist pump you at the plate. While he may have pushed you, please know you own the greatness. Yes you, yourself. Wonderful piece of writing. Raw. Real.

A variation on the theme of Carlos and the Gator, viewed from a different angle, under a different light - the complex ways that burning need for the approval of friends or family affects us, depending on if, how, when, and where it is granted.

As a Englishman, the mechanics of baseball are a mystery to me. I own all four seasons of Eastbound and Down on DVD, but feel that I learned more about jet-skis from that show than I did about anything that goes on in the ballpark. The mythology and the romance of the sport travels better and more freely across the Atlantic. A performance by Miracle Legion of their song 'Homer', on The Andrew Marr Show, sticks in the mind - a song that mixes sports - the memories of being a young boy and catching a ball as it heads out the park, and of a conversation between his father and the football player John Unitas.
